Savestate oddity | Core Freeze (Certain Games, Certain Platforms ?)

I experienced a savestate that wouldn't load back correctly. I was playing James Pond 2, completed 4 levels, made a savestate. When I tried to load the state the next day, all I got was a black screen and about 1 second of sound (from the beginning of the game!) repeating over and over. Has the temp file been corrupted ?

I noticed that VICE now has a different approach to savestates (no temp files) and wonder if this method will be making it's way to PUAE ?
